New Year, New Faces
A new year has brought some new faces to the Holt Brothers team. If you haven’t already, you’ll be seeing them hard at work on project sites, at project meetings and around town. We’re really excited about these new employees. They have initiative, discipline and team spirit — values we embrace. They also have expertise… Read more »
Our City, Our Project
Holt Brothers Construction is excited to have recently won the Market + Exchange Plaza project in the heart of downtown Raleigh. Currently, the plaza is dark and depressing, a sea of concrete. Used as a cut through and just recently the scene of a violent crime. When it’s done, the City of Raleigh’s Urban Design… Read more »
Lessons from the Gridiron
How does playing football prepare you for running a construction firm? It’s a topic I was asked to speak on at a recent Carolina AGC conference in Charlotte. The lessons are similar because, simply put, construction is a team sport. Construction is about teamwork, focus and determination – the same skills needed to succeed on… Read more »
2013: A Year of Milestones
Looking back on the year, Holt Brothers Inc. achieved some major milestones. At the top of the list is the team we have assembled at Holt Brothers Construction. When Torry and I were exploring construction as a potential business, the first response we got from people was: “Are you guys crazy?” Keep in mind, this was… Read more »
A Trip That Opened My Eyes – And My Heart

Mind Over Matter
The NC State football team faces a big challenge tonight vs. the #3 nationally-ranked Clemson Tigers. Not too many people (outside of the team) think they have a chance. State is a 14 point underdog. And while Clemson dominated its last opponent, it took State a last second field goal to get past the Richmond… Read more »
Great Start but Room for Improvement
NC State couldn’t have started the season (and Coach Doeren’s tenure) better than the seven play, 65 yard, 2:33 drive that resulted in a touchdown. It was the perfect tempo and it pumped up the anxious 60k plus fans. Then the unfortunate happens – Quarterback Brandon Mitchell goes down and limps off the field. Wow…. Read more »
Going for THE WIN
Torry and I get asked a lot how the world of sports translates to business. I’m not sure where to start because I feel like my entire sports career prepared me for the business world. It’s having the big picture in mind (i.e. winning the game), knowing your role on the team (defensive back or… Read more »
